#MeToo: Govt sets up group of ministers to check sexual harassment cases


Will not save #MeToo’s offender, Modi government set up by a group of ministers

Under the #MeToo campaign, many cases of sexual harassment have surfaced in the past. In order to take action on these matters, the Modi government has constituted the Group of Ministers (GoM). This committee headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The work of the committee will have to decide new guidelines to strengthen the law and institutions to take action on sexual harassment cases at the workplace. Apart from Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Maneka Gandhi and Nitin Gadkari will remain in this group of ministers.

#MeToo campaign sexual harassment

This group of ministers will tell within 3 months how to reduce the number of cases of sexual harassment with women on the workplace. How strict action can be taken in cases faced by them.

It informed by the government that the electronic compliant box set up by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, in which the women register their complaints.

It is worth noting that under the #MeToo Campaign many cases of sexual abuse have emerged in the workplace against women. Due to this, the country’s politics and the film industry have come under attack. Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar had many charges under the campaign, after which he had to resign from his post.

The letter written to political parties

Central Women Development Minister Maneka Gandhi wrote a letter to political parties on this issue. In this letter, he had appealed to the presidents / executive chairmen of all political parties to form an internal committee in his party.

Who could hear such cases. These committees created under the Sexual Heritage Act of 2013. Maneka Gandhi has requested political parties to make such a committee on national and state level.
